Picking your theme: Red, white and blue isn't just for forth of July. It's also perfect for a hot cocoa winter ONEderland party and the nice thing is that it works for a boy or girl! I channeled the advice shared in a recent blog post we featured last month from Sarah of Be Envied Entertaining while putting together our display. Having limited space and a lot of fabulous items to showcase I knew I needed to create layers. I did this by using a dark colored chest on the top of the tabletop to help anchor the center of the display and provide a surface to hold the larger elements like the darling Hot Cocoa Warms the Heart Print by Polkadot Paper Company, mini hot cocoa mug pinata and Balloon Wands by Handcrafted Parties. Stringing pretty garlands through the display helped as well. Benzie Designs made the fun blue polka dot felt garland with tinsel that worked perfectly to go across the front of the chest and add a touch of color. Their fun red feltfetti dots were a couple places in the display. The bottom of the display is decorated with a fabulous tissue tassel garland by Glam Fete. They were able to customize the colors to match our event and it really provides an extra touch of whimsy to our display!

Hot Cocoa Coconut Cupcakes: We used a box chocolate cake mix for the cupcakes and used Sweets & Treats Boutique's fabulous designer greaseproof cupcake liners because they hold their color well with even dark cakes! When the cupcakes are ready to be decorated top with a swirl of vanilla frosting and roll in shredded coconut. This makes them look like a snowball which works well if your party is in the winter time. To make them even more fun and flavorful add another swirl of frosting using a jumbo star frosting tip with chocolate coconut flavored frosting (thank you Betty Crocker for this new frosting flavor!). Finish with tiny marshmallows and top with a candy to finish your yummy Hot Cocoa-Coconut Cupcakes!

Hot Cocoa Bar: You can't have a hot cocoa party without having a hot cocoa bar! You can go as simple or complex with as many toppings as you want. Here we used the main essentials of hot cocoa mix, marshmallows and mini chocolate chips. We also featured some extra special treats like chocolate coated peppermint stir sticks with mini chips and tiny marshmallows...yum! Our new red glitter small wooden scoops are perfect to add to the fun tin buckets I found to hold the cocoa mix and some of the toppings.

Marshmallow Love: Did you know you can get super soft marshmallows with your name, logo or a design on it? We were so excited to find Candy With a Twist which is a company that can make you custom marshmallows and kits for your special event! They made the fun heart and snowflake marshmallows and hot cocoa and marshmallow stir sticks that really made our hot cocoa bar look special.

Hot Cocoa Sticks: As a bonus to our hot cocoa bar we had some of Candy With a Twist's hot cocoa and marshmallow stir sticks that we decorated with fun printable flag toppers and party rounds from Lemonberry Moon. They not only added to the display but could be enjoyed at your party or used as party favors! And how cute are those mitten cake pops tucked in confetti stuffed shot glasses! We'll give you more details on those shortly!

Hot Cocoa Party Printables: When planning a themed party finding a printable party sets can really help with the decoration of your dessert display and party favors. Lemonberry Moon designed and extensive set giving us lots of fun elements that we used on multiple items in the display. The flag toppers and rounds were so versatile! We used them both as an accent on the hot cocoa stir sticks and they also came in handy to add a little flag to the cake pop sticks with a jumbo red heart sprinkle! How cute do the candy filled milk bottles with thank you tags and some of the party rounds for the cap look?!

Party Favors: A variety of favors were used in the display we created. They provide decoration and make great take away gifts too! Our fun red berry baskets were filled with all kinds of treats as a thank you gift for guests. If you are having guests of all ages it is nice to have a few options for favors with different styes of goodies. We added edible items like our hot cocoa rice crispy pops (click HERE to get our recipe featured on Forever Your Prints Blog), chocolates, Sixlet candy wands by Handcrafted Parties and heart marshmallow pop that you can find instructions on how to make on our last blog post. We stuck in a few items for guests to enjoy later like hot cocoa packets, a hot cocoa wooden spoon, jumbo paper straws and Marshmallow Hot Cocoa Lip Balm by Orange Thyme! It smells just like hot cocoa and marshmallows!

Special decorations to make your event memorable: Once you select your party theme it is nice to find special decorations that you can use in your display but also have as a keepsake. For our event you can't get much sweeter than the adorable Marshfellow figurine holding a cup of hot cocoa by Marshfellows and the mini "hot cocoa mug" pinata by Lisa Frank of Handcrafted Parties. You can fill the mini pinata with sweet treats and tiny presents for the birthday boy or girl and the figurine is a darling reminder of the special day!

Everyone's favorite cookie all decked out: Who doesn't love Oreo's? These take the cake, or we should say take the place of a cake on our dessert table! The chocolate covered Oreo's by Candy by Luci matched our theme colors perfectly and looked great next to the chocolate covered peppermint sticks. Decorated with pretty sprinkles and edible glitter they were a special treat for our display. If Maine and Arizona were closer we would have had Alyssa of Cuteology Cakes make a custom cake for our display. Her cakes are magical and beyond what I could create. I was inspired by a ONEderland and Mr. Penguin cake set she made recently and carried the color scheme over to our event. Even though we didn't have a full size cake we had plenty of smaller treats to make our display special.

Mitten Cake Pops: We adore the work of Becca of Sweet Whimsy Shop! She makes the most beautiful and tasty cake pops. They mitten shaped ones she sent for our event are just perfect! We used a pair of them as the topper in the jumbo cupcake we made and the other sets were placed in a shot glass filled with custom confetti by The Confetti Bar. Doesn't confetti just make everything look better! You will see it scattered here and there throughout our display and it really added another dimension of detail! The two "C"'s go together perfectly! Confetti and Cake Pops can really make your party fun!

Favor Bags For You: Getting a favor bag at a birthday party is like opening a stocking on Christmas. You don't know what might be inside but you know you are going to like it! We tucked all kinds of fun little items in our small glassine favor bags and used some darling chalkboard style "For You" gift tags from Polkadot Paper Company. They also designed the "Thank You" tags used on some of the red berry basket favors and the Hot Cocoa Warms the Heart print that is one of the main design elements of the party display and pulls everything together. We got an inexpensive frame and painted it blue to go with our color scheme and decorated the matte with some of the red funfetti felt by Benzie Designs and think it turned out darling to showcase the print.

We hope you enjoyed our hot cocoa party and now we have our big giveaway to share with you!!
