Garden Party Dessert Table
A little whimsy, pretty colors and some very special sweets make up our garden party dessert table. We captured the essence of spring with blooming flower sugar cookies, cake pops and chocolate covered Oreo's. Some special display pieces were used turning rustic pieces along with things we already had into something new. We hope you enjoy wandering through our display and discover something that you might want to incorporate or make for your next party or dessert table.
We partnered with some very special makers to bring you this pretty display. Their lovely items inspired the color scheme as well as the desserts we made. The painted and sprinkles ball jars from Unpolished and Pretty set the tone for what we created. Savanah makes a variety of home decor items. Her decorated ball jars are a favorite! We used 3 different styles of her jars in our display. If you are looking for unique and pretty items for your next event or even your home be sure to check our her shop as many of her items can be customized!
Our garden party dessert table showcases a variety of sweets that can be made ahead of time saving your time and maybe even a little stress right before your event! We made chocolate covered pretzel rods that are decorated with our Sprinklefetti™ Pretty Spring Sprinkle Mix. To make the pretzels a little more special we made white chocolate bow with our mini bow chocolate mold. Unpolished and Pretty's mint and sprinkle rimmed jar worked perfectly for holding our chocolate covered pretzels. Along side the pretzel jar are mini cocoa rice crispy cups made in our coral polka dot baking cups and mint green polka dot baking cups. Sweet little bow cupcake picks by Olive Our Love Handmade finished them off perfectly. Kristen makes beautiful felt creations and the cupcake picks inspired the chocolate bows we added to the pretzels!
Some other sweets we made ahead of time are speckled chocolate eggs painted with pastel blue, pastel green and white edible art paint. They transformed white candy coated chocolate eggs into Robin's eggs. We placed some of the candy eggs in mini light purple baking cups and mini yellow baking cups. These are the perfect size for holding candies for party favors!
Chocolate covered Oreos are favorite sweet to make and can be made ahead of time. Our petite four chocolate mold is just the right size for making mini chocolate covered Oreos. We turned them into flowers by placing them inside mini cupcake liners. Use two liners, one turned inside out then placed in another mini liner to give you vibrant color on the inside and outside. The leaves were cut out of textured paper and placed under the cupcake liner to complete the flower look. Both sizes of our chocolate covered Oreos are painted with a variety of the edible art paints we carry to add a pop of color! We added sugar daisy flowers to the top of the full size Oreo's. These were perfect to scatter around the table top and became edible decor.
When deciding what to make for our garden party dessert table we knew flowers would be showcased. We wanted to make flower cake pops but making them by hand would probably not give us the look we were after. The flower mold from My Little Cake Pop worked great and created consistent shaped flowers! They have cake pop molds in all kinds of shapes to help your create beautiful cake pops in no time! We used our clear acrylic cake pops sticks and decorated them with layers of chocolate to create a 3D look to the front of the flower. Then they we dusted the surface with TruColor White Pearl Food Paint Powder to give it a slight shimmer. The inner petals were painted with more of the TruColor paint powders in shades of coral, mint and yellow. We'll share in another post how we made them.
One thing we like to do when creating a dessert table is to use unexpected objects to create interest to the display. The green frame was just perfect to accent our barn door backdrop. We glued some pretty butterflies in the center to complete the look. Mini terracotta flower pots were used for our Robin's nest rice crispy treat cups and for the flower cake pops. We placed purple tulip cupcake wrappers inside each of the cups before filling with sweet treats. We found a small wooden chest and the drawers were the perfect size to place the flower sugar cookies made by Sullivan Bakehouse! Chelsey's cookies are a work of art and taste delicious!
Another thing you can do to save on time, add some variety to your dessert table and support another sweet maker is to purchase some specialty items for your dessert table. Sullivan Bakehouse specializes in making beautifully designed sugar cookies. Be sure to stop by their Instagram page where they have friday bake sales! Chelsey's cookies were a great addition to our display and were made using our daisy flower cookie cutters set and are decorated in chocolate not icing! She matched the colors to our garden party perfectly! Each of the flowers were finished by adding our Pretty Spring Nonpareils to the center. Some of the cookies were tucked in the drawers of the chest while others were placed in the painted short ball jar by Unpolished and Pretty. A match made in heaven. The "cookie jar" would make a great take home favor or gift for someone!
To me springtime means gardens coming back to life, flowers in bloom and birds returning to build their nests and to lay their eggs. This was the perfect inspiration for the final piece of our display, the cake. We made a small tiered rice crispy treat cake and topped it with our edible bird's nest cake topper. The nest is filled with more of our painted chocolate eggs and a tiny bird. Under the nest we piped frosting leaves and allowed them to set before dusting them with TruColor Spring Green Shine Food Paint Powder and TruColor Turquoise Shine Food Paint Powder to give the leaves more dimension and shimmer. There was a little space around the cake and the top of the cake stand so we added more of the chocolate covered chow mein noodles and that completed our rustic spring birds nest cake.
We hope you enjoyed looking around our whimsical garden party dessert table! We love creating sweet displays that might help to inspire your next dessert or dessert table!
