Sprinkle Filled Cupcakes Tutorial
Top o’ the mornin’ to ya, friends! It’s Christie with Ritzy Parties, and I’m bringing you a fun sprinkle filled cupcake tutorial for St. Patrick’s Day. You're going to love it as it has lots of exciting details! Now if you're not making cupcakes for St. Patty's Day you can use this tutorial as a guide to make any style of sprinkle filled cupcakes, just change up the colors, sprinkles and the kinds of chocolates you make for the top!
Step 1: Make cupcakes in the flavor of your choice.
My shamrock cupcakes are made with a delicious devil’s food cake in gold and white foil cupcake liners. If you prefer using baking cups Bakers Party Shop has a nice selection of those too. You could use the solid green and the small gold ones for this project. If you are short on time you can ask your local bakery or grocery store bakery department if you can purchase unfrosted cupcakes so you can get right to the fun part of filling your cupcakes with sprinkles and decorating them.
Step 2: Sprinkle filling time!
Once the cupcakes had cooled, I used a cupcake corer to create a hollowed out section in the center of each cupcake. I then filled the cupcakes with Sprinklefetti™ St. Patrick's Day sprinkle mix. The blend in this sprinkle mix is fabulous; it’s filled with shamrock candies, gold coins, gold stars, and assorted sprinkle shapes in green, gold, black and white. I used a small spoon to fill each cupcake to the brim. These sprinkle filled cupcakes will be a hit with my little lass and quite the surprise!
Step 3: Time to frost your cupcakes!
These tasty Saint Patrick’s Day cupcakes are frosted with three shades of icing, using a specialty Wilton color swirl decorating set that comes with a 3 section coupler and piping bags that you have to see to believe. If you want a multi colored frosting swirl this is an easy way to accomplish it!
Step 4: Make chocolate shamrocks for your cupcakes.
I melted some chocolate to use in the large shamrock candy mold and small shamrock chocolate mold. For this project I decided dark chocolate would look nice on the colors of frosting I was using. Since the cupcakes were chocolate cake it will make it and extra special treat for those who love chocolate.
Step 6: Decorate your sprinkle filled cupcakes.
Since the sprinkle filled cupcakes had the St. Patrick's Day sprinklefetti mix in it that has all kinds of fun shapes I decided to use Sweet Tooth Fairy's green sprinkle mix on the frosting swirl. That way when you took a bit it was an extra surprise on all the sprinkle fun that these cupcake were filled with. To finish them off I nestled a large chocolate shamrock and a small chocolate shamrock together as the topper, that’s also a treat...because who doesn't like two treats in one?!
Step 7: Make bonus bite size cupcakes.
Not everyone may want to eat a full size cupcake (who are these people?!). Sometimes it's nice to have some smaller bite sized options to offer when putting together a dessert platter. Since I had extra batter I made mini cupcakes too. I simply frosted them with the same swirl technique, and added a little St. Patrick's Day Sprinklefetti, along with a really cute Happy St. Pat's cupcake pick. Assemble your cupcakes on a platter. If it has a raised rim and you have extra sprinkles place them around the cupcakes for extra decoration. They will stand out on a display.
